Man and the Christian Worldview

Conferences on Critical Concerns from a Christian Perspective
Held in beautiful Crimea

Georges Carillet, Founder & VP and Chairman of the Department of Religion, Crimean-American College, Simferopol, UkraineProviding an international academic setting for presenting the Christian worldview to those from the former Soviet Union in the context of one’s profession

International conferences on critical concerns from a Christian perspective are designed to promote Christianity as the ideology/worldview to fill the vacuum left by the failure of communism, and thus to promote Christian morality and responsibility in all areas of life, including government, education, science, medicine and society.

Crimean-American College, Simferopol Medical University, and the Crimean Branch of the Ukrainian Academy of Science jointly organize academic lectureships, colloquiums, symposiums, roundtables, and conferences to bring together academics and professionals, Christians and non-Christians, from around the world to discuss matters of critical concern from the perspective of the impact of ones’ worldview (comparing other worldviews with the Christian worldview, both in light of tests of truth and particularly in their effects), with special attention to the moral issues foundational to our common socio-economic crisis.

The program is directed toward the intelligentsia (most of whom are atheists) – the highly educated and influential members of society, especially those of Russia and Ukraine. It is designed to encourage the examination of one’s worldview and its effect on one’s discipline and profession. We seek to show that one’s worldview has consequences for every discipline and profession, and thus for society as well. We also seek to demonstrate that Christianity offers the best answers to the questions a worldview presupposes and that it best fits reality. If the leaders of government and institutions are moved by the intellectual integrity and hope that a Christian worldview offers, they could make conditions easier for people to follow Christ as individuals and as the church.

The tone of our meetings is intended to be dialogical rather than polemical, though this does not mean that strong convictions are not expressed. As Christians, we listen to people who genuinely want the world to be a better place to live, but have not considered Christianity because of their negative experience of it in one or another cultural form, or because of their ignorance of what its story or ideology really is. We also want to contribute to a greater understanding of the interaction between Christianity and the public sphere that has marginalized and trivialized religion.

To be understood, we must first show that we understand. We provide a forum in which competing worldviews can be understood, examined, and, hopefully, provide some direction for participants and the people they influence to help make this a better and safer world, step by step. We encourage the development of professional and personal friendships, and cooperative efforts that go beyond the meetings themselves. Ultimately, our desire is for each person to know, love and serve God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
